I recently read a great article that asked the question: Why does the web love cats? It got me thinking. I got on YouTube and started looking up cat videos. The majority of them were hilarious. Just look up "funny cat videos" and you will be overwhelmed. I started viewing them all the while trying to figure out the magic recipe. What makes those videos funny? Why are cat videos even funnier and more readily available than dog ones? 

Cats are cute, but more importantly, they are curious. I believe it is due to the curiosity and strong mind of felines that they provide endless funny material. 

Let us analyze for a moment the top 10 funny cat videos on YouTube. 

#1. The Talking Cat: A tuxedo kitten "speaks" in a husky voice that sound too much like a human cussing. 

#2. Cat Eats From Chopsticks: This furry fellow looks terribly serious as he stands on his hind legs and eats... out of chopsticks!

#3. Cat Shower: A kitty proceeds to drink water directly out of a faucet, but in between "sips" dunks her head under the stream of water.

#4. Boxing Kitten: An orange tabby watches a boxing match and throws punches in the air.

#10. Surprised Kitty: A baby kitten on its back startles as it throws all four paws up in the air as the human startles it. 

All those videos will get even those allergic to cats, literally or figuratively, at least break a smile, but in my opinion, the best and the really funny cat videos always involve a dog. We have all been raised to believe that cats and dogs do not get along, but for all funny cat video fans, the secret is out: throw a puppy into the mix and you are sure to get a cute if not hilarious video.

               I Can Never Get Enough of Funny Cat Videos

My daughter loves cats. She has since she was a very little girl, and she loves to watch funny cat videos at every available opportunity. She recently told me that I should check out some of the ones she had downloaded, so I took a peek. Before long, I was addicted, and still find myself watching funny cat videos all the time.

The one that always stands out to me is the video of the cat that is being washed by a monkey. This was made popular by the David Letterman Show, who sent it to an awards show. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I just remember watching it with my daughter, who was about three at the time, and listening to her laugh hysterically. Cats sure have interesting ways of expressing themselves. Some are cute, and some, well, can hurt. Most cat owners know about love chomps, those playful nips cats give at times. When your cat does this, don't hit or get mad, just gently brush it off and distract him to do something else. Cats respond to suggestion, professional trainers rely on this principle to train them. By giving kitty something else to think about, he will forget about gnawing on you and put his attention elsewhere. Though I'm not an animal behaviorist, I know what works for my cats, and use information learned by those in the know. A good resource to contact if you need a real professional's advice on cat behavior is at your local chapter of the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Aniimals). I called my local chapter and asked who to talk to regarding certain behaviors and they told me a behaviorist would call me back. She did, and was very helpful in giving me tips on handling problematic cat behaviors of different kinds. The ASPCA has local chapters in most cities and is a good resource for help with animals of many kinds so I recommend them.
